Tune of the Day: The Jolly Corkonian
Traditional Irish jig
The earliest known appearance of this jig under the title “The Jolly Corkonian” is in Francis O'Neill's celebrated collection Music of Ireland, published in Chicago in 1903. In Irish Folk Music, O'Neill identifies the tune as “the original of the march the Scotch call ‛The Hills of Glenorchy’”; this is probably inaccurate, however, as the latter march appears in Scottish collections dating back to the early 1800s.
