Some random terms
- squillante
Ringing.
- mariachi
Traditional Mexican ensemble popular throughout the country, consisting of trumpets, violins, guitar and bass guitar.
- stentando
Literally, “having difficulty”. A directive to perform in an ungraceful, heavy manner, holding back each note.
- orchestra An instrumental ensemble, usually fairly large, with string, brass, woodwind sections, and possibly a percussion section as well.
- affettuoso
Tender, loving, affectionate.
- meno
“Less”.
- cantus firmus
“Fixed melody”, usually of very long notes, often based on a fragment of Gregorian chant that served as the structural basis for a polyphonic composition, particularly in the Renaissance.
- response Short choral answer to a solo verse; an element of liturgical dialogue.
- andantino
A moderate tempo marking, which can be faster or slower than andante.
- lentement
Slowly.
- moderato
A moderate tempo, faster than andante but slower than allegretto, usually around 100–120 BPM.
- Rinaldi numbers A numbering system identifying compositions by Antonio Vivaldi.
- new wave Subgenre of rock popular since the late 1970s, highly influenced by simple 1950s-style rock and roll; developed as a rejection of the complexities of art rock and heavy metal.

- double flat An accidental sign consisting of two flat symbols, that lowers a note by two semitones.
