transcribed for solo flute
This famous instrumental Spanish piece, also known in English as the “Spanish Gypsy Dance”, was written by Pascual Marquina Narro around 1923, and first recorded in 1926.
Its main refrain is arguably the best known snippet of Spanish music, and is popular worldwide.
Arrangements of the tune are often used for the Latin Pasodoble dance, to the point that, among Latin dancers, it is known as “the pasodoble song”.
“España Cañí” is also often played during bullfights, usually at a slower tempo for dramatic effect.
Thanks to Valeria for suggesting this tune!

Handel's original manuscript states that the sonata would be suitable “per la Viola da Gamba” (a Baroque-era instrument resembling a cello), suggesting that the change of instrument was probably sanctioned by the publishers, Walsh and Chrysander.
