Traditional Scottish/Irish jig
This tune was originally the air to a song from the 5th volume of James Johnson's Scots Musical Museum (1797) called “The Rinaway Bride”. The song was supposedly given to one of the editors of the series, Stephen or William Clarke, by a Roxburghshire gentleman.
The present jig is the Irish version of the song's melody, taken from Francis O'Neill's celebrated collection Music of Ireland, published in Chicago in 1903.

Traditional Scottish jig
This jig is taken from Francis O'Neill's celebrated collection Music of Ireland, published in Chicago in 1903. The tune is probably Scottish in origin, as the title clearly refers to the early-16th-century Scottish nobleman Black Donald (Domhnall Dubh in Gaelic), chief of Clan Donald and claimant to the Lordship of the Isles. He was captured by the Earl of Argyll while still a child and imprisoned in Innischonnel Castle in Loch Awe, where he remained in captivity for 37 years.

Traditional Irish jig
The first appearance of this jig is, without a title, in George Petrie's Collection of the Ancient Music of Ireland, published between 1855 and 1882. The title “The Humors of Trim” is first found in Francis O'Neill's Music of Ireland, published in Chicago in 1903. Nowadays the tune is often referred to as “The Rolling Waves”, a name that is however shared by multiple traditional melodies.
